How to keep your Shellac looking FABULOUS!
You will absolutely LOVE your nails while you are wearing Shellac and I expect your nails to last for at least 14 days as long as you give them good care and attention during that time. This means you should protect your nails by wearing gloves when doing jobs like household cleaning and gardening, hobbies that are rough on your hands or using harsh chemical products. ...Doing these things without protection can mar your Shellac service and reduce its longevity.

You will notice during the application process that Darling Digits coated the front edge of the nail with each layer of Shellac. The reasons for this is to make the manicure look nice and to avoid the colour shrinking at the free edge during the curing process. The ‘so called’ seal is expected to wear off the sharp free edge of the natural nail in a few days with normal wear and tear. It is possible to carefully file this free edge every few days to keep the free edge looking perfect. (The lack of a sealed free edge does not cause chipping or peeling if you have filed correctly, always file at a 45 degree angle and with a 240 grit file or preferably even higher)

If something you have done has caused a chip (that cannot be filed away as discussed above) or lifted an edge of your Shellac manicure, please do NOT pick or pull at the area, as this will cause any damage to increase. Please contact me so that I can assess the nail and decide if a repair is necessary. Please note that repairs will be chargeable.

If you are on holiday please be careful when using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain solvent oils which will cause major damage to the Shellac colour coat.

Some of the more delicate Shellac colours can fade somewhat if one is in chlorinated water followed by excessive sun (remember that chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action). Dry your hands and nails after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading.

Please use Solar Oil (which is designed to be used with Shellac) at least twice a day (especially at night before going to bed) to replace lost moisture to your skin and nails. Also beneficial is the use of any hand and body lotion daily. Maintaining this aftercare regularly will substantially prolong the life of your Shellac manicure and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturised and flexible.

If you wish to temporarily change the colour of your nails whilst wearing Shellac you can use nail enamel over the Shellac but please be sure to use an Acetone Free Remover if removing nail polish between appointments. (Please note however that the ‘mirror shine’ Shellac finish may be slightly compromised by using nail varnish remover even if it is acetone free!)

Incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails which defeats the whole point of the Shellac system.  Darling Digits will be able to remove Shellac using a professional remover and to give you a mini-manicure so that your natural nails will look perfectly groomed.
